  • Bunk Beds are not just for the kids.
    Its true, today bunk beds are so much more than part of a childs bedroom, there are so many different types available that will cater for the smallest children to the largest adult, there are even Full on Full bunks, that is 2 double beds on top of each other and with the range of designs available there is sure to be something for every possible combination. Lets take a look at what types of bunk beds there actually are.

    Twin Over Twin or Single Over Single. The original bunk bed, two twin beds stacked on top of each other, used for years in the military and dorm rooms throughout the world, a versatile space saving way to sllep 2 people.
    Twin Over Full or Single Over Double. A full bed below with a twin over, useful for large families of same sex children and often used in hotels, motels and guest houses in family rooms with a crib, mom and dad below, older child over, baby in the crib.
    Full Over Full or Double Over Double. Maximum sleeping space provided by two full beds stacked vertically.
    Full Over Twin or Double Over Single. The full bed sits above the twin bed with extra space underneath often used to house a desk or dresser, exceptional use of floor space with a large sleeping capacity.

    There are even more that may or may not be considered Bunk beds by some, such as;

    Loft Beds or High Sleepers: A twin or a full raised up of the ploor on legs allowing the floor space underneath to be used maximising the space in a room.
    Cabin Bed: Also known as a Captains Bed, these are platform beds supported by furniture like drawers and wardrobes, no space under, just furniture.

    Solid wood bunk beds can accommodate the weight of adults easily, given the strength of the raw material used in the construction and in fact wooden bunk beds are probably the most popular type available despite the contemporary and modern new look metal futon bunk beds on the market.

    Oak bunk beds whilst seemingly expensive will of course last a lifetime and beyond, however basic pine ones may not last quite so long and that is reflected in the cost. Whatever the type you want you will do well to buy the very best you can afford, as the investment you make now will last a very long time.
