  • FOAM SOFA BEDS

When we think of a sofa bed or sofabed we tend to think of a couch with a metal fold out bed frame and mattress stored in the cavity underneath the cushions, these are the type of sofa bed couches that we are all used to and that have been around for such a long time. They are very successful at what they are designed to do, but they do have a couple of problems in my humble opinion, the first one is that the sofa bed couches do not perform that well, because the bed is stored in the cavity under the cushions I have always found that the seating is way too hard for my liking and lets face it if you have to sit on it to watch TV you actually want it to be comfortable. Second fault I find is that the sofa bed mattresses supplied with them, by necessity, are to thin to be effective for sleeping on, although generally the bed mechanism is good enough and well enough sprung, the thin mattress ruins this. The third problem is the price, a good one with quality materials can cost an excessive amount of money, these are three reasons why I consider a foam alternative to be worth more than a passing look.

Foam sofabeds are constructed entirely from fabric covered foam which also links the foam panels together, generally they are simplicity themselves to fold out being both super light and simple to do. They come in a huge range of sizes as well some are little more that 3 blocks of foam stitched together while others look incredibly like a normal sofa. The chair bed version is usually the most basic with few design options available but full size ones can be found to suit any taste. As seating they are more than adequate as the cushions are essentially being supported by more cushions so to say that they are comfortable may be something of an understatement, the same is true of the comfort when in the bed position, the foam being both supportive and extremely comfortable. If there is a down side to this type of sofa bed it will be that the bed is essentially foam on the floor so there is no height to the bed but the depth of the mattress, this could be an issue for older or mobility impaired people. Despite this I can highly recommend a foam sofa bed especially for an occasional bed.
