What kid does not love a bunk bed? Seriously, children and bunk beds go together like kids and candy. They are so much more than a bed, when I personally was younger ours were a spaceship, a bus, a house, a submarine and so many more things way beyond the capability of my tiny adult mind. Ah if only they had the selection of different types available then as they do now, I mean have you seen bunk beds lately? I recently had the pleasure of buying a new set of bunk beds for my children, being girls they had demanded that we get them 'girls bunk beds', this meant to me that we would get a set of most likely wooden but possibly metal bunk beds and dress them in girls bedding, oh how wrong I was. I always knew there was kids furniture bunk beds available but my goodness how things have moved on, not only can you get sparkly girls beds but alternatives are available for boys as well and as for the triple bunk beds that are available now - I would have swapped my very best skateboard for a set of them. I have learned through the process of buying the beds that there is a lot to consider whilst buying children's bunk beds, like any kind of children's furniture there is a safety aspect to consider, there are considerable dangers involved in falling from the top bunk to a hard floor so no matter how fascinating the style or decor of the product if it doesn't have proper safety guards that make it virtually impossible to roll out of then they should not be considered. Beyond this safety aspect however there is still a lot to be considered, how old your children are, what size do they need, you see there are all sorts of sizes and styles of bunk beds from the traditional single bed size, to beds with a full on the bottom with a twin over and indeed twin over twin bunks as well. Obviously build quality has to be looked at as well, how long do you expect your children to be in the bunks? You may get away with cheap bunk beds of a lesser quality if they are only to be used for a short period, having said that I firmly believe you should buy the best you can afford. Whatever your decision there are some great places online to buy your beds from, I personally bought ours from Amazon.com, yes i know, the book and DVD shop sells bunk beds to buy. Not only that but they were considerably cheaper than even the discount offline retailers I visited, so keep that in mind as a buying option. We also have friends who bought used bunk beds as well as a new set from eBay, both are absolutely delighted with their purchases and the prices they paid and if what they tell me is true, the prices were pretty outstanding. Just so you know, we ended up buying an amazing set of (not very girl like) wooden bunk beds with a stairway rather than a ladder, they are full size and provide great comfort for the girls and look fabulous in their room, they have made them a bit girl like themselves with ribbon and various items and revel in the space that it gives them in their room. I often hear them playing some imaginary game that the bunk bed has a central role in. Long live the Bunk Beds For Kids! | ||||||||
